He’s Still Enough

It’s the warmest winter in our small town since the 80’s and my southern heart is not complaining. There is no snow on the ground, no ice scrapers being pulled out when we leave the house, and the sun is shining brightly. The weather outdoors mirrors that inside of me. Warm, bright, and hopeful.

All around the world, people seem to spend the week between Christmas and New Year’s in a sense of reflection. It makes sense that as another year closes and is slid onto the shelves of memory that we take one last moment to flip back through it’s pages and remember with bittersweet fondness the stories that ended and the ones that have just begun. That is just what I have sat down to do.

If one thing rings out true amidst the beauty and sorrow of this last year, it is that God does indeed keep His promises.

He said He would never leave, and on my darkest days He was here. He said He would not withhold any good thing, and all that He has withheld was indeed for my good. He said that He would complete the work He began, and while I have been more aware of my own sinfulness than ever before, I have also seen Him continue that work of pruning my soul. He said He would be with me when I passed through the waters, and as I felt the waves rush over and knock me down, He upheld me.

He has not failed to keep His promises, not once, and it is for this reason my soul rejoices at the coming of a new year. I have no synopsis, no clue as to what stories He plans on telling in and through my life over the next twelve months. I know not if they contain tears or laughter, loneliness or companionship, loss or gain. But I do know one thing: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.

And that, dear friends, is enough.

He is the answer when our feeble sense blind us. He holds us fast when our grip is weak. He invites us to rest in His arms though the world around us is filled with chaos and question. He tells us time and time again to trust that perfection is stamped on His every act and He is writing the beautiful stories your imagination can only long to dream up.

He is faithful. He will not fail.

Dust off the book this last year is, flip through it’s pages. Read the stories He’s writing through the good times and the bad. You may not see the ending yet, but I promise you’ll see the Writer. Let Him finish His work like He promised He would, and peacefully wait to see it’s completion.

Call to mind His faithfulness.

Wait on Him.

Hope in Him.

He’s enough, for last year, and this year.

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: the steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope I Him. The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul that seeks Him. It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
