Week Three Recap
This week we read chapters three and four, The Slough of Despond and Evangelist Findeth Christian Under Mount Sinai, and Looketh Severely Upon Him. The content was deep, and I’m still mulling over it! What are some of the things that have especially stood out or sparked questions for you? I encourage you to discuss them with your book club!
A Wee Little Reminder
Materials and posts regarding this book club are meant only to aid you. These materials do not make up the book club experience, and are not required. Weekly blog posts may vary in content, and this is because they aren’t the core of the book club. The people are. It is up to each individual how much they are willing to put in and thus receive from the experience. Don’t rely too heavily on the internet resources when really all you need is a book and a friend. Use only what aids, not what distracts.
Discussion Questions for Chapters 3 & 4
- Pliable hears of the good things Christian is seeking, and decides to follow him. But when
he discovers that this road Christian is taking is difficult and full of trial, he turns back.
Are there times when you are easily dissuaded because the task at hand is harder than you
- Christian’s burden seems heavier after taking Mr. Worldly wiseman’s advice. Why do you
think this is the case? Whose advice sounded better at first glance, Evangelist or Worldly
- Why can Mr. Legality off no hope to Christian? Can he do anything to save himself?
What hope does Evangelist offer?
- What are some of the things the Interpreter shows Christian? What do they mean?
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”John 10:27-30 ESV
