I haven’t ever done one of these before, but there’s a first for everything. Today I’m sharing five of my favorite books I would recommend to teenage girls (around ages 13-16). I hope you enjoy, and maybe, find a good book to read… and let’s be honest, these books are really good for any girl. Young and old alike will find comfort (and sometimes conviction…) and enjoyment in these classics.
Anne of Green Gables by: L. M. Montgomery
This book has long been a favorite on my shelves. True story: I actually threw the book across the room when my Mom suggested I read it. How foolish of me. This is truly a treasure on growing up, and learning to think big, and love deeply.
Stepping Heavenward by: Elizabeth Prentiss
No surprise this one is on here… I said I would recommend it to everyone, and I was not kidding. Written in a journal style, this book navigates the growing up years and more with an eloquence and honesty that is unrivaled. You can read my full review here.
The Lamplighter by: Maria Cummins
Yet another one I was hestiant towards, but fell in love with as soon as I made my way into it’s pages. A story on true beauty and kindness, that I would recommend to everyone, but especially teenage girls growing up in 21st century America. You won’t close the last page the same person. You can read my full review here.
The Hiding Place by: Corrie ten Boom
A non-fiction story that is more captivating than the best fiction book you have ever read. A timeless tale of courage, integrity, and God’s never failing faithfulness. The true story of the ten Boom sisters, who, during World War 2, hid Jews from the Gestapo. They were sen to a concentration camp for their actions, and the rest, well, you’ll just have to read for yourself. An unforgettable story.
They Called Her Mrs. Doc by: Janette Oke
Most well known for her Love Comes Softly Series and When Calls the Heart, this author brings a sweet tale of love and family that has remained a favorite of mine for years. This is one that teenage girls, young women, older women, and even older women, can enjoy in any season of life.
