It is my pleasure to welcome Lucy McCracken from Lucy in the Sky Creations for our third Saturday in the Small Shop Spotlight Series!! Her watercolors are whimsical and classic. Beautiful work tha is sure to brighten any space, bag, or even book…
Madelyn: Hi Lucy! Thank you so much for joining me for an interview! It is such a pleasure to have you! I have one of your prints hanging above my desk. It has the quote “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” I absolutely love it! What made you want to design prints and sell them?
Lucy: I have struggled with anxiety and panic attacks in the past and I found that when I was being creative those feelings would go away, and I would feel at peace.
Madelyn: Have you always been really crafty? Has watercolor always been your favorite way to make art?
Lucy: I never thought of myself as crafty. I have always enjoyed drawing. Watercolor is a medium that I learned from Jane Davenport when I took an online class of hers. I fell in love with it at once.
Madelyn: When did your literary love begin? Do you read a lot?
Lucy: I have loved to read as far back as I could remember. Growing up in the foster care system, I found that books was this wonderful world I could escape and be safe in.
Madelyn: Who are some of your favorite authors?
Lucy: Lucy Maud Montgomery, Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters are some of my favorite authors.
Madelyn: What is your favorite literary quote?
Lucy: Oh my goodness there are so many lol One of them is probably by Anne of Green Gables ‘Dear old world’, she murmured, ‘you are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you.’
Madelyn: As a small business owner, what is one piece of advice you would give to someone wanting to start a shop of their own?
Lucy: It takes lots and lots of patience and a ton of hard work.
Madelyn: What is your personal favorite item for sale in your shop right now and why?
Lucy: The 2019 Literary Calendars. I think it’s wonderful to have most of my favorite lit quotes to look at throughout the year.
Lucy: Thank you so much. ❤️
